This was outside of our sleeping room. I'll mention here that all week, we had to go without warm water. Ice cold showers in the morning is an effective way of waking up, that is for sure. Also, you coudn't open your mouth while you showered because there could be parasites in the water. I was not successful, because I ended up with a parasite. However, they were prepared for these things. I immidiately got an antiparasitic medicine, which cleared it up right away.

Of course, dad forgot to pack his suntan lotion and bug spray in his checked luggage, so they pulled him aside. I thought for sure they were going to take him to some foreign prison, but they ended up not minding at all. Dad just lost his suntan lotion and bug spray.

Danielle and me. This was the night before she left. She worked in the finances of GMB. Our group was the first one she got to travel with to the clinics, but she eventually had to go back to the offices. It was very sad when she had to leave.

This was on the forth day of clinics. However, instead of going to the clinic, I went with a small group to do "public health" work. Each day, a small group would split off, and Friday was my day to go. The public health project for that day was to cement this dirt floor of a house in a small village in the mountains.

Here was our public health group in front of the pile of cement. They did not have the big machines to mix the cement, so we mixed it with shovels on the ground. It was the most back-breaking work I had done in a long time. The cement becomes jelly-like, but it is so heavy, it was quite bizarre.

The man with the shovel on the left is the owner of the house. We had only planned on cementing the room with the kitchen (it was the last room left that needed cementing, the rest of the house - the two bedrooms - had been cemented by previous GMB groups), but the owner went ahead and started another batch of cement. We didn't not have much choice but to give him a cement porch. It was pretty funny, but it did mean more work for us.

Here, we were finishing up the porch. Through this doorway was the second bedroom. The house was three rooms total - two bedrooms and a kitchen/living room - for a family of 6. It was a tight squeeze for them. To give you an idea of the total size of the house, each room was probably around 90 to 10 sq. ft.

This is a better picture. They said that 3 months ago, during the rainy season, this huge chunk of the road gave way and fell down the mountain, landing on the hotel below. Unfortunately, several people died. To give you an idea of how much of the road fell, the white line that you see is the shoulder of the side, so both lanes of the road fell down.

This is the second day of our clinics. This was a view from outside the church where we set up our clinic. In the bottom left are several students of our group getting pictures of the livestock. The locals seem not to be worried about the cattle roaming off because they don't have fences.
